Light Against the Dark
Big week down in the dig. Three things landed that all push in the same direction: making the deep feel like a place, not a backdrop.
☀️ The Sunmote
The caves are dark on purpose — your headlamp only reaches so far, and the black is part of the threat. But sometimes you need to own a room. The new Sunmote spell drops a tiny captive sun that floods the cavern with 30 seconds of real daylight. It’s the first spell that’s purely about safety and sightlines instead of damage, and it completely changes how a scary room feels.
🔨 Throw the pickaxe
Your pickaxe is now a Mjolnir. Hold to wind up, release to hurl it — it punches through dirt and any ore your pick can break, clips whatever enemy is in the way, and boomerangs back to your hand. No mana, pure skill, and it scales as you upgrade. You can’t dig while it’s out, so there’s a real risk/reward to flinging your only tool across the room.
🌿 The caves breathe now
I built a pipeline for ambient life — 40-plus little three-frame looping props: swaying grass, dripping water, drifting dust, pulsing crystals, crumbling ruins, lava bubbles. They scatter through the world and quietly loop. None of it is “gameplay,” but it’s the difference between a tunnel and a place that’s been here a long time.
Next up: tuning the grapnel feel and getting the first proper trailer cut together. If you want to see it move, that’s the thing to watch for.
